What are Spider Veins?
Spider veins are the younger cousins of varicose veins. They are caused by the same things as varicose veins – obesity, standing on your feet for long periods of time, pregnancy, menopause and sun exposure. Spider veins are blue, purple and red and are easily visible through the skin. They typically occur on the face and legs.
How can BoxBar Help?
Dr. Ellen Derrick offers several treatment options for spider veins.
Sclerotherapy
In this procedure, Dr. Derrick, or her nurse, injects a solution, usually a saline solution, which scars and closes the spider veins, causing the blood to reroute itself through healthier veins. This procedure takes about 15-30 minutes and is an in-office treatment. You will need to avoid strenuous activity for several days after the treatment. Also, you are not a candidate for this procedure if you are pregnant.
Laser Vein Treatment with Cutera XEO
Another treatment option is laser treatment using the Cutera XEO laser. This laser allows Dr. Derrick or her nurse to treat spider veins anywhere on the body – face, chest, breasts, hands, arms and more. Any skin type can benefit from this treatment – light or dark. The laser delivers pulse light energy (PLE), causing the blood in the vein to coagulate. After 3 to 5 treatments, the vein will die and be reabsorbed by the body. There is little to no downtime after treatment but you should avoid strenuous activity for the first 24 hours after treatment. You should see results in two to six weeks after treatment.
