Vascular System Diagnosis and Treatment in Seattle
Your vascular system is made up of a system of many flexible tubes. Some of the tubes are tiny, and some are large. This system of tubes (which are veins, arteries, and lymph nodes) moves fluid –blood, lymph and removes tissue waste –throughout your entire body. Through this system, your body organs and tissue receive oxygen and nutrients. This complete system is known as your vascular system.
Ten times more patients suffer from venous insufficiency than from peripheral arterial disease in the U.S. Between 25 to 40 million people in the US have some form of venous insufficiency compared to about 12 million with coronary artery disease.*
Dr. Ellen can diagnose the following potential vascular system issues – DVT or Deep Vein Thrombosis (a blood clot in the log), carotid artery stenosis, which is a risk factor for a heart attack and stroke. She can also diagnose abdominal aortic aneurysms, which is what killed Alert Einstein and Lucille Ball, PVD or peripheral vascular disease (narrowing of the arteries in the legs) and determine if a diabetic patient’s wounds are not healing due to poor circulation. While she does not do wound care, she can refer you to a local physician who is excellent at treating wound care.
Treatment Options
Once your diagnosis is confirmed, there are several treatment options available to you. There are minimally invasive options such as catheter-based and stent procedures. There are options which combine the minimally invasive procedures with some of the surgical procedures. Patients have great results with these “hybrid” procedures. Depending on the level of need, there are also surgical only options to consider.
Once a diagnosis is made, Dr. Ellen will review all the options with you and together you will decide on your best treatment course. She is highly skilled in the latest techniques and procedures to treat vascular system problems, and you will relax, knowing you are in the very best hands. Her care is all patient-centered care, and you are her top priority.
